Today, I want to show thanks for my grey hair.

Don’t get it twisted - I don’t LIKE my grey hair. I don't like the way it looks on me. Mine is growing in along my hairline and in my part, which looks like a skunk stripe when I leave it alone, so I vainly cover it up. Even though I’m “pretending” that mine aren’t there, I appreciate what they represent and look at them from a couple of perspectives.

Firstly, I am grateful for my opportunity to age. Not everyone gets that chance. I appreciate my life and all of the ups and downs I get to experience - which brings me to my second perspective… each of those pesky grey hairs is a strand of wisdom and experience. Each has been a learning opportunity that may have caused pain, but afforded me the opportunity to feel the strife while “in" it, and the relief of having gone through it, landing on the other side. We all have hardships (remember: there can be no light without the darkness), but how we move through them is a real measure of our evolution and growth - and also what I believe is the true purpose of our existence.

So I am oddly thankful for those wiry, persistent, amassing hairs of grey. And to quote one of my favorite “storytellers”:

‘Every silver lining’s got a touch of grey… Kind of suits you anyway' - Jerome John (“Jerry”) Garcia
